There she was born and raised, as daughter of postwar-refugees from Silesia, in a little village in the countryside which converted in the 1970s into suburb of Münster, the capital of the region Westphalia.
During childhood she spent much time in forests, fields, which dominate the landscape there. And she started to listen to tales and songs of the elderly, many of them in their native dialects (in case of her family, Silesian (see map of dialects, no. 27), and the native tongue of the region: Platt (another type of Low German, see map of dialects, no. 2).
